Income Protection for University of Arizona Residents and Fellows
You have invested heavily in yourself – protect that investment and your long-term financial success
Own Occupation Income protection (disability insurance) is vitally important for physicians given the investment you have made in yourself. Now is the best time to protect that investment with securing an Own Occupation disability insurance policy while you are still in training.
Where to start with securing disability coverage?
Securing private disability insurance is often challenging due to the extensive medical underwriting requirements and pre-existing medical conditions. In our observation (and sometimes higher depending on the data source), roughly 4 in 10 applicants will either be declined or receive modifications on their policy.
This could mean increased premiums, loss of important features, limitations on benefits, or exclusions for specified conditions. Ultimately, this makes it difficult to obtain the type of coverage you want and need.
This is why Humblewealth offers a unique and exclusive guaranteed standard issue program to University of Arizona Residents and Fellows.
As a resident/fellow at University of Arizona you have access to an extremely valuable disability offering, known as GSI (Guaranteed Standard Issue). This program allows all applicants to qualify for clean coverage (without modifications), regardless of medical history and via a simplified process excluding medical underwriting. In other words, there is no discrimination based on health.
By applying and underwriting for private disability insurance, you are putting yourself at risk. If other coverage is applied for, it is likely you will become ineligible for the GSI offering
This is unfortunately a common occurrence that can be avoided through proper education. Even though you understand your medical history and may be “healthy,” insurance underwriters will view things through a very different lens (hence the probability of underwriting modifications discussed above). What may seem clinically insignificant may ultimately impact eligibility from an insurance standpoint.
The GSI at University of Arizona is only available through select financial professionals – not all financial professionals can help you obtain this, and may not even be aware that it is available to you
We highly recommend you discuss your options with a financial professional who is aware of and can help you obtain the GSI, before applying for disability coverage
The GSI is only available to you while in training
There are various reasons to obtain coverage while still in training – such as lower pricing based on age, and discounts available to residents/fellows. However, one of the greatest reasons is your eligibility for the GSI while in training

This does not reset with policy increases, and will never impact coverage after the first 12 months
